Japanese Lover

Isabel Allende

I love the complexities of Allende. A young girl, Alma, escaping the ordeals of the German Concentration camps, to live with her relatives in San Francisco loses her Japanese friend to the Concentration camps in America. While she cares about living a proper life with her AUNT and Uncle, she meets him again but the cultural difference is not acceptable. When as an artist, she no longer cares about what is proper, he has a wife. Allende beautifully weaves the story strand by strand, showing us the influence of time and culture on a life.
