An Opportunity to Own History

The Keene Valley Library is deeply grateful to the Goodwin-O’Brien family for their generous donation of eighty six (86) maps of the Adirondack Park.  Since 1984, Tony Goodwin has been editor of the High Peaks Guidebook of the Adirondack Mountain Club and his father, Jim Goodwin, acted as editor before him.  Along with Peg O’Brien, sister of Jim Goodwin, this family used the collection’s maps to guide them throughout the terrain of the  park and to produce the guidebooks relied on by hikers for many decades.

At the request of Tony Goodwin, the library will offer for sale thirty nine (39) maps which are duplicates of the library’s holdings.  All proceeds of the sale will be used to support the Keene Valley Library.  Published from 1898 to 1958, these maps are being sold in “as is” condition and are available for inspection in the library’s Alpine Room during library hours.

The map listing displays the minimum prices of the maps being offered for sale as well as their condition.  Please remit an additional $15 for shipping should you not be picking the map up at the library.  Of course, the library welcomes additional donations above the minimums cited. Maps may be purchased in person at the library or by mailing a check following a phone reservation of the desired map.

Maps are offered on a first come, first serve basis.  Email (kvla.requests@gmail.com) or phone (518-576-4335) may be used to reserve your choice.  If the map is still available, you will receive a confirmation; maps being shipped require payment to be received at the library before the map is shipped.

Please contact the library with any questions about this opportunity.

Below is a partial list.  An additional 15 maps can be seen in the library.
