Painting Demo at Noon
3-4 PM Reception for artists and guests
All ages are welcome. All Media are welcome
Suggested Donation: $25 payable to KV Library
Purpose: To provide an opportunity to experience painting outside the studio under the guidance of an artist who is experienced in all media. Designed as an introductory workshop, participants at all levels of skill are invited. Haven’t picked up your paints in a few years? Here is your chance to dust them off. Experienced painter? You’ll have the freedom to paint!
Rain Date: No rain date was set; paint from the porches on almost all sites.
Participants: All age participants are encouraged to come. Children under ten years of age must be accompanied by an adult, who can also paint. The fee is $25 for each participant. Observers are free and can listen to the demonstration and enjoy the reception.
Materials: Any media can be used for this day of painting and sketching. Materials will not be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring whatever materials they have. Sharing of materials is encouraged. Instruction and critique provided, as needed. Experienced participants should have a basic familiarity with their materials.
Media: watercolor, acrylics, oils, charcoal, pastel, pencil and/or pen…
Equipment/supplies: field easel or drawing board; portable chair; water container; brushes (if purchasing, make sure you buy brushes for your media); pencils (2B, F, or 2H); pencil sharpener; soft paper towels (also some for clean up); canvas, sketch paper, and/or watercolor paper (preferably Arches 140 cold press; do not use student grade paper!); white artist tape for non-canvas users; kneaded eraser; and don’t forget your paints, pastels, charcoal, pen and/or pencil! Also helpful, a wide brim hat and sun screen and bug lotion for protection.
Location of painting sites: See attached map. Four locations are available for beginning painters: the arts and craft style KV Library, with lovely plantings and interesting windows; Sunny Jim, the yellow house next door (great found items in the lawn and on the porches); the KV Congregational Church, which has lovely gardens and beautiful clean lines, as well as a challenging clock in the steeple; and the Adirondack Conservancy, which has beautiful landscaping and hanging baskets as well as a wonderful shaded porch. Additional painting sites this year include, to the south: Noonmark Diner, Adirondack Realty, Birch Store, Neighborhood House, and Rooster Comb B&B, with its interesting furniture and workshop! To the north, the KV Country Club is also available with a Arts and Craft Style Clubhouse (and porch) and a stone bridge over the East Branch of the Ausable River.
Lunch: No lunch is provided. Plan on bringing your own or purchase locally. It is suggested you order ahead of time!
Valley Grocery: Sandwiches across the street.
Noonmark Diner and Ausable Inn, within walking distance, for sit down or take out.
No alcoholic beverages on any of the painting sites, please.
Water: You may fill up your water bottles at the library.
Bathroom: In the Library
Parking: See the map, but preferably along Market Street, and the Market Street large parking lot.
RAIN Instructions: In the event of rain, there are many porches available for you to station your easel. Please ask permission before setting up, if in doubt. The Birch Store is not available during business hours and Noonmark, as well as the Ausable Inn can get very busy, so you might want to consider the Conservancy, the Neighborhood House, Sunny Jim, and the KV Country Club.
